About City University of Hong Kong

City University of Hong Kong is a rapidly growing institution with a burgeoning local and global reputation for professional education and research.

Our vision for higher education is firmly rooted in a core belief that we have a responsibility as an institution to make a genuine difference in people’s lives.

The One Health concept, for example, has been firmly embraced by our faculty and students because it heralds a transformational means of assessing the world’s most pressing problems and thereby instituting conceivable solutions.

In fact, our pioneering Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences was founded on fundamental One Health tenets that human, animal and environmental health are inextricable intertwined.

Embracing One Health reflects our tendency to innovate. We have established a number of new research and teaching hubs well in advance of our peers. We set up the first free-standing School of Data Science, the first School of Creative Media, the first School of Energy and Environment and the first college of veterinary medicine and life sciences in Hong Kong.

Supporting our innovations in higher education is our determination to create greater opportunities for the integration of research and teaching in the classroom under the direction of our unique undergraduate curriculum. We strongly believe that researchers should teach, and teachers should research if we are to respond effectively to the myriad challenges confronting society today.

That’s why we take every chance we can to embed innovation and creativity in all our academic operations.

Success is hard to measure but we have done well in QS rankings: 55th in the world, 21st in Asia, 5th in the top 50 under 50 years old, while we hit the top 50 in nine subject rankings: Linguistics, Communications & Media Studies, Social Policy and Administration, Development Studies, Business & Management Studies, Accounting and Finance, Mathematics, Civil and Structural Engineering, and Computer Science & Information Systems.

Not only that, ten of our faculty were named “highly cited researchers” in the latest data from Clarivate Analytics; and CityU was ranked first in Hong Kong for two years in a row according to the Top 100 Worldwide Universities that received the most US utility patents published by the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association in 2017.

Ideally positioned at the heart of the city of Hong Kong and at the gateway to mainland China, especially the dynamic Bay Area in the southeast region, we provide a dynamic learning and research environment for students and faculty from all over the world, with the number of non-local students selecting our programmes rising and our international network growing.

Like the incredible city in which we are based, CityU continues to grow, innovate and prosper.
